The location was magnificent and the room was exceptionally clean. Btw, the airport was 25 km away. Amazingly friendly and excellent staff, everything was perfect. We booked guest room with 3 single beds and truly enjoyed it.

Excellent location and friendly staff. I stayed in a triple room with ensuite bathroom in new part of hostal with 2 friends. Room was very clean and big enough for a weekend stay. Towels, soap, hairdryer and free safe were included in room, also spanish breakfast included ( choice of croissant, toast, small breakfast sandwich with cup of coffee ). Key card issued for each guest to come and go and staff on hand in small reception 24 hours a day. Brush up on your spanish though as staff only speak spanish, my friends who didn't spanish managed fine as staff are so friendly and attempt to use hand gestres, maps etc to get the point across. Hostal luz is in great location close to metro and all the central landmarks such as Plaza mayor.
No complaints at all but tricky to find Hostal luz once you have found number 10 there is a buzzer on righthand side buzz up and take the third floor only indication on door is large CH which i think indicates Hostal, ring bell and you will met by the enthusiastic staff.

The high ceilings create a sense of space, and the cleanliness is commendable with towels changed daily.
Walls are thin, and the air conditioning is weak. The shower head holder is loose, causing water to splash everywhere, and the mattresses lack comfort, leaving little room to navigate the small space.

Great location, close to all main sights. Very helpful easy going owner of the hostal. Breakfast was quite basic but served in a nice cafe. Great value for small money!
It can get a bit noisy if you have a room with street view. The staff speaks very little English (but still the attitude is very warm and welcoming).

We had the double room which was lovely with 3 single beds.

The staff, especially Margarita, was cute.
The air conditioning in the room was ineffective, leaving us uncomfortably hot . The shower head was poorly secured, causing water to splash everywhere in the bathroom. The noise from neighboring rooms was disruptive, as we could hear every movement clearly.

Breakfast is served in a nearby bar, with unfriendly waiters.

The location and the clean rooms.
The breakfast is just a cup of coffee and a croissant or a sandwich. It was fine for us, but if you are looking for a breakfast buffet this might be a disappointment.

The hotel is conveniently located near many areas to visit, dine, and shop, making it an ideal base for exploring Madrid.
The bathroom had an overpowering old sewer odor, which detracted from the overall comfort of the stay.

The location is excellent. Its about a minutes from station Opera and 3 from the Royal Palace. Also very close to Puerta del Sol. Its just awesome for sightseeing and going to party at night.
Its quite small so I would not recommend it for families with children

I was almost going to leave a good review, but i just couldn't get over the awful air conditioning and the sleeping arrangements. Squeezed in a tiny room with uncomfortable beds instead of a lovely upgrade? Not too classy for a supposed hotel. Can't forget the loose shower head that drenched everything. Definitly not worth the hassle.

Convenience of the location was the only real bright spot for this place
We paid 108 Euros for a bedroom and an enclosed bathroom, after being assured online it was 88 euros. The single bedroom had four single beds in it and only enough space between beds for us to put our luggage - no floor space after that. I joked that the bathroom was so small that you could brush your teeth, take a shower and go to the toilet all at the same time, without moving! It was small - and we had stayed in hotels in Venice, Florence, Siena and Rome - this was by far the worst experience of the five cities. We were only here one night (thank goodness) and we just were there in order to catch our flight back to the States. I'm not knocking European hotels, but this one will never see me again...
